Hi.

I would like to give Guest (non-registered, non-logged-in users) to be able to post on a forum I have in my front page. I have the following options selected:

Administration Users Permissions Define roles

Guest Role
Forum:
  • Reply to posts: Allowed
  • Start new discussions: Allowed
  • View discussions: Allowed

Administration Users Permissions User policies
  • Role for visitors: Guest
  • Role for guest: Guest
However, when a guest tries to start a new threead, receives:

Sorry, guests are not allowed to post.

Would you like to log in now with a full user account?

Any idea how I might be able to enable this?

Thank you so much smile

Hi Frank,

Unfortunately you can't set up the guest role to post into any forums due to special security restrictions put in place specifically for the guest account. See this discussion, http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=69674 for more information about this. You can also follow this discussion, http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-12917 in the issue tracker.

As far as your current role definition, doing this kind of override will allow access for a guest to participate in any forum in any course on the site, assuming guests could actually participate in a forum. Not necessarily something you would want to do. You would always want to use the override permissions tab on the specific activity.

I hope that this helps.

Too bad. I can live without this but it would have made my life so much easier.

Thank you for the help.
