We're considering purchasing an SSL certificate for our Moodle sites.
I see in the settings to use https for logins. This is good. But we also would like it for the email based self registration, so users are more at ease with enrolling.
Is this possible? Or, do I instead have to run the entire Moodle site under SSL?
What is the norm for Moodle with regards to https?
No one uses SSL with Moodle or can provide one iota of information about this?
Hi David,
I don't have any experience with Moodle and SSL but you might find some useful hints in the documentation or in these forum discussions:

We run our entire site under SSL. Currently we are hosting with Remote Learner. As far as I can tell there are basically two easy options - only logins via SSL or make the root be https://your.site.here/ and have the entire site be SSL. We've opted for the second option.
The way I see it, student information (including grades) is FERPA protected and running under SSL is due diligence on our part.

Thanks for the response. I agree with you...better to have some protection than none.
Have you had any problems with running the whole site under SSL? My main concern is that we have multimedia heavy SCORM lessons. I really didn't want to have the whole SSL encryption running on those...but that may be the only option.
