Reinstall or upgrade?

Hi there,

Ive been running moodle 1.9 through a webserver for the last year. after initially being hacked and rooting out unpleasant files via cpanel, it´s worked well. I now want to upgrade and am not sure if i should reinstall the latest version and upload my backed up db. the reason why is because im not sure if i cleared out ALL the rubbish files that were created by hacker - subdomaines and other debris was causing me probs, altho most was got rid of?

should i start afresh?
doews it matter?

any help massively appreciated

Ben,

When you upgrade you should backup the old Moodle folder and replace it with the new version. Following this process will ensure that all files left by your hack have been removed.

thanks Jon,

i also have a moodledata file which, on recommendation, i kept outside the pub_html folder. Will the new moodle link automatically to this?

Ben,

In addition to what Jon mentioned - I ALWAYS backup my data directory before any upgrade.

As to your question - you will have to put your old config.php into the root directory of the new install of moodle so moodle knows where everything is.

Hi again,

just upgraded and all looks well except, i created my own frontpage look - see screen shot - and after the upgrade, the banner has been cut short across the top. Any ideas how i can rectify this??

Secondly an unrelated matter, my web server switched servers some time ago and from then on neither i nor my students were able to access the contents of any folders in the courses. I´ll attach a screenshot in the next posting of what we are getting. I know the files havent disappeared because they are visible in the moodledata folder, it´s just via moodle they cannot be accessed. Ive had this problem with resolving it for ages.

Thanks for any help

Ben
