"Do Anything" vs. "View Courses"

"Do Anything" vs. "View Courses"

I'm struggling with setting up a role that can go into any course - but only for limited functions such as backup, restore, reset - not view grades, etc. (such as for a student assistant, intern, etc.)

The problem I'm getting is that in order to get the user into every course, by my understanding, I need to allow "View Courses" (moodle/course:view) - but then this means every time the page loads, in a course or on the FrontPage, it takes a long time because "My Courses" lists the user in every single course (and we have thousands). Usually, we just use the course search function to find the course and enter.

My understanding is that the way around this, is to allow the administrator "Do everything" role (
moodle/site:doanything) - and turn off "view courses" but then this means I can't prevent the user from seeing gradebooks, etc. - even if I move all those little buttons to "Prohibit".

Does anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks in advance,
clark
