Blocks ::: block_quickset

Quickly set course and grades visibility, number of visible sections and "Edit sections" -- insert, delete, reorder, rename any course sections from one screen.
Latest release:
22 sites
2 downloads
Current versions available: 1

The "Course settings" block (heretofore named, "Quickset") has changed dramatically.

NOTES:

  1. "Update settings" is the default focus button so <ENTER> will cause that button to be submitted with any changes to:
    • Students see course?
    • Grades visible?
    • Visible sections
  2. "Edit sections" displays this screen (in screenshots):

Studying this screen you will discover it does everything it appears to do:

    • Delete course sections from anywhere in the sequence (if resources exist in that section they will be moved to the "Zero" section -- a warning pops-up to remind you)
    • Add sections in the middle or anywhere else
    • Quickly reorder sections with no clicks and no reliance on how AJAX is feeling today.
    • Edit the names for any of the sections which is particularly handy when first setting up a course (think of the "click savings"

Yeah, I agree -- I don't like the way the buttons are setup but want people to be able to re-order and see the results several times before being sent back to the course page. Maybe I need to split out the buttons.

Have just simplified the button structure -- it really was ghastly. Also have stringified displayed strings so you can easily customize.

    Dear Bob,
Quick question. We are using the previous version of your block with Moodle 2.5.1 and we still experience this error (the first one in the list - error writing to database):
    http://moodle.tiddlyspace.com/Quicksets

DId you correct this in the newest version of the block?

    Thanks,
    Gabor

I believe you will find this block working correctly but I want to make sure you're using it with a topics course format.

Yes, the problem happened with topics format (Moodle 5.2.1+) and plugin version 2013071700

So this bug is corrected in the next version?

    Thanks,
    Gabor

I don't know, Acs -- I could never replicate the issue and other schools I know that use the plugin have not experienced the problem. I would be very happy if you would test out this version. It includes all language strings customizable.

Thanks Bob, I will give it a try.

How you can replicate: Go to the edit sections part. Select a section. And click "add a course section" after selected.
But DO NOT wait until it is done, but quickly click on that button again.

There you go, error message, corrupt course.

I tried this with the newest version - the same thing unfortunately. Double click on add a course section and corrupt course...
Any ideas? Or do you have a simple version without this functionalty?

I don't think I understand 'double click'. Where in Moodle do you use a 'double click'?

It is not Moodle it is the user smile
Of course one click is enough, but if the user double clicks on that button, Moodle wants to write twice to the database and... error.. . smile

I can look at it but I'm wondering if I can do anything about it. Hopefully some clever move will fix it.
  • Just wondering . . .

I'll push the most updated version that should have no issues with 2.6.1 today.

I just installed on Moodle 2.5.2 with Essential theme, but see no delete or remove button for the sections. When I look at the release notes from this latest version, the statement about being able to delete has been removed, but there's not mention of the feature being removed. Am I missing something?
