Course formats: Folder View format

format_folderview
Maintained by Picture of Kris Stokking Kris Stokking
The Folder View course format displays activities and resources within a folder that is expandable or collapsible. This course format can display all folders on a page or a single folder at a time with previous and next topic navigations or a jump-to menu, which each allow the student to easily navigate between folders. Editing functionality is consolidated for the course into an area at the top of the page. This course format mimics many of the features of ANGEL folders, making previous ANGEL users feel more at home within a Moodle environment. The plugin was also developed with an eye towards consolidating the editing functionality in Moodle's Topics and Weeks course formats.

A new version of Folderview has been released to support Moodle 2.4. Please note this is a beta release as it has not gone through full testing by our QA team.

Hi Wasim - I've updated the installation instructions to include the dependency on installing the MR Framework. Please use the link for "More documentation on this plugin"

I'm currently running into a problem with my installation. The "add block" "add resource" , etc links at the top of the course when editing is turned on are non responsive. The "expand all" / "collapse all" buttons are non-responsive as well.

My Moodle build is Moodle 2.4.3+ (Build: 20130405)

I'm using these versions of the necessary plugins

    Folder View - Version 2013021200
    MR Framework - 2010090200

The weirdest part is I have another Moodle installation where things are working find with this exact same configuration and I can't figure out what the problem is.

I've tried using multiple themes but the problem is persistent on all themes.

Are there any server dependencies needed for the functionality I detailed? These portals are behind a load balancer so I would be able to check to make sure the servers are all identically configured if I knew what to look for.

    Is it running off javascript?

More specifically when I open the console on Google Chrome it is throwing this javascript error:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'ariacontrolled' of undefined

Located in folderview/yui/sectiontoggle/sectiontoggle.js on line 89

    sectionContent.plug(M.local_mr.ariacontrolled, {
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'ariacontrolled' of undefined
    ariaLabelledBy: sectionName,
    ariaState: 'aria-expanded',
    autoHideShow: false,
    autoFocus: false
    });

Dan/Wasim - I'm having trouble uploading the newest version of the MR Framework to the plugins database. Please install the 2.4 version from http://development.moodlerooms.com/file.php/1/Moodlerooms_Releases/MR_Framework_for_2.4/local_mr.zip in the meantime.

I'm receiving this error in the console now when viewing the course from the main overview.

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'plug' of null yui_combo.php?moodle/1373990859/format_folderview/sectiontoggle/sectiontoggle.js:95

I can't seem to isolate the cause it is only affecting certain courses on a portal utilizing the folderview format.

The course had Moodle Room's E-Folio assignment types in there that I removed from the mdl_assignment, mdl_grade_items table to make sure they weren't causing a conflict. If you can shed any light it I would be very thankful.

    I'm using these versions:

My Moodle build is Moodle 2.4.3+ (Build: 20130405)

I'm using these versions of the necessary plugins

    Folder View - Version 2013021200
    MR Framework - 2010090201

You had provided the updated Moodle Room Framework and you changed the framework version # from 2010090200 to 2010090201

Hi Daniel - We've never seen that error message before. I imagine that the root cause is related to the fact that you've tried to cleanup the eFolio assignment records from the database. In general, this is not a good practice because you can cause all sorts of problems with records that are expected to be there that have suddenly gone missing. Did you also clean the eFolio assignments from the course modules and related course sections tables? In this case, I would guess that the course section is referring to a course module that points to an assignment record that doesn't exist when it's expected to.

I'll try to go through and check to see if there are any other database references.

It wasn't working before I deleted the Efolio assignments. So either way the functionality wasn't working previously. I'll continue looking at it.

Hi Kris. We're running Moodle 2.5.1 and updated the Moodlerooms Framework in order to get Folder View format to function properly. We're running into problems moving files within this format though. The workaround is to switch to Topics view in order to move files. This seemingly is the only issue we've experienced with the plugin and Moodle 2.5.

Thanks for the update and workaround Kenton! I've notified the developer - we should have a Beta version available by the end of this month. Stay tuned.
