This was an error. The freshly released version is only compatible with Moodle 5.0. Thanks for pointing me at it.

Can I use this plugin without an AI API?

For this plugin to work you need to install the plugin local_ai_manager. This will need to be configured for an external AI services, so you will need an external tool providing the AI services (OpenAI or Google account to generate a valid API key).

How do I turn this OFF and UNINSTALL - I do not want AI cluttering up my site or interfering with my creativity. And I don't want it to keep installing itself every time I run an update.

Hi, could you please be more precise? This is an optional plugin. If you don't want to use it, just don't install it? Or did I get your message wrong?

I uninstalled the plugin not wanting to use it but with a subsequent update of Moodle (I'm on the Moodle+ weekly stable release) it appears to have been reinstalled as a missing plugin. Hence my question. It was uninstalled and a db update done to remove it from the list of plugins but it reappeared on a subsequent update. Following your question, I am guessing that something did not uninstall quite as intended…
Thank you for your reply — I shall survey the situation on my site.

This is not related to this specific plugin but a general behavior when installing plugins. After uninstalling you have to immediately remove the related plugin code from your codebase (there is also a hint after uninstall has been completed). So please follow the instructions and there won't be any re-installation.

When you say "remove plugin code…" I imagine it is simply follow the standard procedure, as with all changes, to run the database update… That I do every time. And this morning I have run the latest release update and…surprise surprise…that bloody plugin is back again!

No, after uninstalling, you have to go to your Moodle code base (ssh? ftp? whatever?) and remove the directory public/lib/editor/tiny/plugins/ai or lib/editor/tiny/plugins/ai , depending on the Moodle version you are running. Please note that this is not at all specific for this plugin, this is how all plugins need to be uninstalled: Run uninstall in the website administration, remove the code, then continue. This is also explained in the screen after the uninstall.
