Decaf is a three-column, fluid-width theme for Moodle that was created by Lei Zhang and Paul Nicholls. It improves usability by fixing an "Awesomebar" at the top of the screen, which provides dropdown menus containing everything in the Navigation and Settings blocks.

For developers, it also transforms the performance info into a colorful bar which floats at the bottom of the screen, which increases awareness of the performance statistics.

Hello to everyone. Can someone please help. I've added the Decaf theme, (uploaded via FTP) , selected in the "selector" tab. I've gone to the "Notifications" menu and "upgraded" database but my old theme is still selected. I've also gone to the theme settings and can see how the new theme IS selected but not showing.
Any help as to what I should do?

Joseph Gerza Meyer, did you resolve your issue? If not, did you clear the Theme cache? It's a good practice to disable Theme caching while working with or developing themes. We have Dev, Test, and Production envionments which allows for greater flexability when it comes to turning on debugging and/or creating plugins etc.

Paul, I think I have lost a comment in the Great Crash here where I asked about Decaf for Moodle 2.6. I know you said "Not immediately" but I forget if you said anything more. We are looking to be starting in February 2014 in one of the sites I work with.

    Hi Paul

    Thanks for great Theme!

You have some forecast for the theme for Moodle 2.6.?
With version to 2.5 it is giving the following mistake: "Exception - Unknown type"

Derek, Jose and anyone else who's interested:
A version of Decaf for 2.6 is on my great big list of things to do - I'm hoping to get around to it by the end of the year, but it might be January by the time I get to it.

Derek / Jose / everyone else:
I've just released a quick update which should make Decaf work on 2.6. It's only an interim release, though, as I haven't got time right now to tidy everything up - for instance, I've just disabled the Decaf "edit buttons" on 2.6 for now as they break due to the addition of a similar dropdown in 2.6 core. I've called it a release candidate as it should be stable but I don't have time for rigorous testing - if I get enough feedback suggesting that there are no (major) problems, I'll look at bumping it to stable.

I can report this: brand new shiney Moodle 2.6+ server, with Decaf RC installed, clicking around, creating a course, not problem so far.
Now the crash testing starts in earnest!! Jose, please also report back.

I'm going to do some styling as well, and look to getting images in the headers, a narrower header (Too much screen space taken up)

    Hi,

I am currently using version 2013112500 of your theme and I can confirm the issue with /my still exists.. I have taken a look and branchtype is 11, but I don't know what that means so I'm hoping you can help.

Before we used your theme we updated to 2.6 STABLE.

If you have any questions to diagnose the issue please feel free to contact us.

    A question.
Do any of you guys think it would be worth putting up a tracker item to see if we could get a theme with Awesome Bar into core?
I'll see how I go here, but I may be better to post in the themes forum.

One issue with Decaf in 2.6: when I run my cursor over the Administration link on the Awesome bar, it no longer drops down like it did in 2.4.
I have to click (which loads another page) then hover over it again to see the list.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that this is a feature introduced in 2.6, but I cannot find the reference to it.

    Derek,
Yes, that's a change introduced in 2.6 - it no longer generates the site administration menu except on site admin pages. The intention is to speed up loading of non-admin pages for site admins, but it does have the side effect you mentioned of adding an extra step/click to get to any of the site admin pages... that said, it's only one extra click rather than however many you'd need to expand the settings block far enough to find the page you're after!

I'll be looking more closely at that when I do a full Decaf release for 2.6 (Decaf 1.9 is a stopgap release to just make it work), with a view to adding a Decaf theme setting which toggles this behaviour. That would allow those who are willing to take the performance hit (for admins) on their site to have the full site admin menu as on earlier versions of Moodle - but I can't guarantee it'll be possible.

Found it: Admin Menu not generated (etc) tracker item: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-41811

Indications are with this setting it does speed up every page load.

We have been using Decaf for a long time, and love the awesome bar. We have upgraded to Moodle 2.6 and have the latest Decaf version 2013112500. There is an issue with the file picker making it impossible to upload files. I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere. This seems to be a problem in both Firefox and Chrome, but I haven't checked IE. I look forward to the new version - your work on this theme is very much appreciated.
