Overview

This software is no longer maintained and has been superseded by the OpenOChem LTI assessment system.

Learning organic chemistry nomenclature is not extremely difficult and most students acquire the basics quickly.  Unfortunately a good percentage of students mangle the format, punctuation and/or spelling, losing valuable points on exams and quizzes.  With this in mind a new question type was designed to reinforce IUPAC nomenclature with an emphasis on formatting and punctuation.  Students must construct names by dragging and dropping parent chains, prefixes, suffixes and punctuation symbols to form the correct name.

Carl - First, my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Second, thank you for sharing this plugin with the Moodle community. The first thing we need to do is to specify the versions of Moodle for which your plugin is intended. The second point is more of a recommendation (not required if you have good reason), namely, to consider renaming the Github repository to follow the naming convention - in this case:
    moodle-qtype_easyoddname
Once we get the version specified I will try installing the plugin and look around more closely. If you have any questions just let me know. Peace - Anthony

p.s. - please have a look at http://docs.moodle.org/dev/Plugin_validation#Recommended_URLs - we will want to figure out how you want to report issues (either with Github's issues or Moodle Tracker). Let us know your preference and we can move forward from there. Peace - Anthony

Anthony - No problem on delay, I figure you all were very busy. I changed the repo name as you requested. I tested install and qtype in Moodle 2.3 and 2.6 thus I specified 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6 as required Moodle versions. I'll use github for issues, and I added the issue link on description page. Cheers - Carl

Carl - Many thanks for providing the URLs. One small detail I noticed was that in the renderer.php file there is a call to var_dump that you probably intended to either remove or comment out. Before approving, let's get that cleaned up.

I would also recommend looking at the copyrights which reference many others. When you modify the file, you become the copyright holder of the modified file but can reference the original.

Otherwise, the plugin installs and functions fine so once these issues are addressed I think we can move forward with approval. Peace - Anthony

Anthony - I fixed the var_dump in the renderer and corrected the copyright info. I also fixed some older javascript and replaced with YUI3 calls and cleaned some other things up. These changes are available on the github version. Should I also upload a new version on moodle.org?

Anthony - I fixed the language string you mentioned and the copyright issue with the few files. All is good now and I uploaded new version (2014032500). Thanks!

Hi, it looks good, but the file dragable.html is unfortunately only in English and can not change the language. University teaches in Czech and in English. Bohus

Bohumil - Thanks! If you could send me the translations, I'll do a rewrite to include the language strings.
