NEW FOR 2025

  1. AI-model selection
  2. .pdf file upload support
  3. .doc file upload support
  4. V2 of the API

This plagiarism plugin leverages Moodle's plagiarism API to connect to Originality.AI, a premier plagiarism and AI detection tool for online writing within Moodle's core quiz, online text, and forums.

Unlike many providers, Originality.AI meters by tokens instead of a per-user cost and does not require papers to be submitted to a database. The minimum monthly cost for Originality.AI is low (around $100 USD for an account with access to API keys (a personal account is about $15 a month but does not support API use). While more expensive than direct access, this low monthly pricing still makes Originality.AI one of the most cost-effective plagiarism solutions for Moodle LMS.

Installation and configuration documentation can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KzYqrmDeGbTCO-JlO2zDSV-cXuVUyeTH03F0buzufyw/edit

The plugin approaches plagiarism and AI detection uniquely,

  1. it lets teachers choose whether to scan a submission,
  2. it minimizes costs by charging based on usage (rather than "active users" or "FTEs"),
  3. it does not upload student submissions to a 3rd party database, and
  4. it works on core Moodle activities.

Cursive Technology, Inc. sponsored the development of this plugin. We are unaffiliated with Originality.AI or Passed.AI, but appreciate their work and want to make this solution available to the community.

    Hi,
We are still on Moodle 3.9 planning to migrate but it will take a while. There is no way your plugin works with 3.9 version, right?

    Thanks and regards,
    Raquel.

Also, for all: I have credits and API keys that can be used to test this on your installations before you seek an account with Originality.AI to make sure it's a good fit. If interested please email me joseph.thibault{@}gmail.com

@raquel we are working on back-porting it to 3.9 (there was a plagiarism api change between that version and 4.2 that needs to be accounted for). Watch this space for the release.

Hi, just reporting and asking if other had the same problem: when we installed the plugin in mooodle 4.4+ build 20240620, it became impossible to create any new activities in the platform. We had to unistall the plugin. I was wishing to test it maybe asking for some of the credits described by Joseph...

@Paula, thanks for reporting this. I believe this is resolved, please note that you should include an API key and secret before creating any supported activities. Please use the contact email to make a request for those credentials for testing.
