Moodle Plugins directory: NED - Tabs Course Format | Moodle.org
The Tabs Course Format displays sections as numbered tabs. The number of tabs is unlimited and the colour settings (text, hover, background, etc.) can be customized.
In addition, this course format includes an alternative Activity Tracking System, which tracks the following activity completion statuses:
- Complete
- Incomplete
- Draft (saved by not submitted)
- Not Attempted
- Waiting for grade (student has submitted this activity)
As shown in the screenshot below, these statuses are represented in the form of an icon on the left side of the activity name.
The tabs also provide a quick overview of the activity completion status by showing a green bar, in sections where all activity are complete, and a red bar, where more work is required. Students can also mouseover tabs to see a quick report of the activity statuses for any given week/section.
If you are using our Activity Tracking System on your site, it is recommended that you also install the My Progress block.
*Note that the activity tracking system (and My Progress block) can only be seen by students. Teachers can "login as" student so see this function in action.
Any suggestions?
This format is great, we just discovered it and are planning to use it a lot!
But why do you leave the format when entering an activity?
It would be wonderfull to always stay in this format so students don't get send from one view to the other and back.
For example: when selecting a page or question, it could just open this activity inside the "content-section" of this format?
Is this already possible, anybody else thinking or working in this direction?

I already did what Richard said below and it did not work.
This plugin was created quite a few year ago. We've done our best to patch it up along the way, but it's in serious need of a complete re-write. The schools that originally funding this work have moved on (or will soon move on) to other course formats. I don't think we'll be updating this plugin in the future unless someone with deep pockets is really keen to make it happen. It pains me to say it, but you may want to consider an alternative course format.
we install Ned course format but I dont see label on the first 5 tabs...why?
