Moodlerooms is proud to release Flexpage, a course format that provides a teacher with complete control over how educational materials and assessments are presented to a student.
Latest release:
47 sites
16 downloads
19 fans
Current versions available: 11

Flexpage allows a teacher to create a flexible set of pages and sub pages where blocks and activities can be placed in any location on the page instead of being restricted to a right, left or center column. Flexpage courses provide teachers with the ability to determine how many columns of data are contained within a course (up to three-columns). This allows teachers to have complete control over how they want to present course materials and assessments to students.

Hi Kris: It is getting near the end of December. Do we have a date for the release of a 2.3 version of Flexpage?

Moodle 2.3 took away some of the hooks we had used to apply the Flexpage course layout. As such, we're going to release a new version within the next few days, but administrators need to be aware that they will need a to apply a backwards compatible patch (included) in that version. I will be updating the existing installation documentation to include instructions on how to apply the patch. Please be aware that the update may require re-approval, and I don't know that process will take.

Moodle 2.4 has completely redesigned the course format API's, and we should have all the hooks we need to implement Flexpage in its full glory without any patching required.

The update to Flexpage for Moodle 2.3 has been released. Please see the special installation instructions for Moodle 2.3 at http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Flexpage#Installation, and don't forget to update all of the dependent modules - Enjoy!

Hi Kris...any idea of when we can expect to see a 2.4 compatable version of Flexpage? We're finally migrating from 1.9 and many of our teachers use and love the Flexpage format. I'm likely to face a lynch mob if we try to launch the upgrade process without it.

Hey Doug - development has finished, but we haven't started QA yet. That will likely occur over the next month. If you're eager to get early access, I can certainly make it available to you.

Unfortunately, it will still require a modification to Core code until MDL-27509 is resolved. Voting may help get it included in an upcoming sprint.

    Hi Kris,
It seems that a backup up of a 1.9 flexpage course will not restore on 2.X. Is that correct? I didn't find a backup/moodle1 directory in the flexpage course theme directory.

Hi Patryk - you are correct. Flexpage will upgrade courses during a full site upgrade from 1.9, but will not restore course backups from 1.9.

I have a quick question about Flexpage. For one, is the 2.4 version coming out soon. Also, I have a lot of topics on my page which is causing loading problems with some of my users. Does flexpage sort the number of topics into multiple pages so that only, for say, 20 topics load on one page?

Hey Brad, the code is nearly ready. It will definitely be by the end of this weekend, we just need to put it through a quick smoke test. We haven't done full end-to-end testing, and won't be able to until closer to June, but I don't see why that should prevent admins from trying the latest-and-greatest version.

Flexpage is really a paradigm shift from the traditional topics format. You can setup nested pages of content, which allows you to group smaller topics (aka pages) together underneath a larger one. The same activity instance can even be re-used across multiple pages. You'll need to do some initial work in transferring from topics to flexpages, since it won't automatically convert, but the activities will be present and ready to be associated with one or more pages.

    Hi Kris,

Will the M2.4 and possibly M2.5 version be out before iMoot 2013?

    Cheers,

    Gareth

A new version of Flexpage has been released for Moodle 2.4. Please note this is a beta release as it has not gone through full testing by our QA team. Also note that this version no longer requires any core patches, as the 2.3 version did.
