Panopto 2025112600 Release

Moodle 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 5.0, 5.1
Released: Thursday, 27 November 2025, 12:17 AM

Panopto plugin for Moodle

This is the current stable release version of the Panopto plug-in for Moodle. It is recommended that customers update to this version of the block.

This version supports (a) Moodle 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 5.0, 5.1 running with PHP 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2 and (b) Panopto version 10.6.1 or later.

Below is the list of updates from the previous release (2024120600).

✨ New Features & Compatibility

  • Moodle 5.0 & 5.1 Support: The plugin has been updated and tested for full compatibility with the upcoming Moodle 5.0 and 5.1 releases, ensuring a smooth upgrade path for your LMS

🛠️ Bug Fixes

  • Hidden Course Synchronization: Resolved an issue where users were still being synchronized to Panopto folders even when the associated Moodle course was set to "Hidden." Sync logic now correctly respects the course visibility status

⚡ Performance & Stability

  • SOAP API Throttling: Implemented a new configuration option for SOAP API throttling. This prevents the plugin from overwhelming the Panopto server during periods of high traffic, resulting in better stability and reduced timeouts
  • Pre-Call Configuration Check: The plugin now verifies the server configuration before attempting to call the Panopto server. This reduces unnecessary network traffic and prevents errors caused by misconfiguration
  • WSDL Caching & Tracing:
    • Caching: Enabled WSDL caching to reduce overhead and improve the speed of API requests
    • Tracing: Added support for trace logging (if configured), allowing administrators to debug connection issues more effectively

What is it?

This is a block for Moodle, that allows courses in Moodle to link directly to Panopto folders, and to display recordings in the sidebar. It also allows for SSO between Moodle and Panopto, and automatically syncs user permissions between both systems.

Credits

The original Panopto plugin was written by Panopto for Moodle 1.9 and earlier. It has since been rewritten for Moodle 2 by Spenser Jones, and subsequently made open-source for collaboration between the open-source community and Panopto.
