BigBlueButton BN Reminders (formerly BN Notify) is an extension for the BigBlueButton activity in Moodle that helps improve student attendance and engagement. With BN Reminders, teachers can schedule automatic, customizable email notifications so students never miss a session.

Reminders can be sent at predefined intervals (for example, one day or one hour before the session), and the email content can be fully personalized with placeholders such as the course name, activity URL, or session date. Students can manage their preferences or unsubscribe directly from the reminders, while administrators retain global control over defaults and templates.

BigBlueButton BN Reminders integrates seamlessly with the BigBlueButton activity module and requires no extra setup beyond Moodle’s standard plugin installation. Once enabled, reminders can be added directly within each BigBlueButton activity.

Manual installation

1. Download the release ZIP.

2. Extract it to:

   mod/bigbluebuttonbn/extension/bnreminders

   (The folder name must be exactly bnreminders.)

3. From your Moodle root, run the upgrade:

   php admin/cli/upgrade.php --non-interactive

   or visit Site administration → Notifications and follow the prompts.

4. Go to Site administration → Plugins → BigBlueButton → Manage BigBlueButton extension plugins and ensure BN Reminders is enabled.

5. Confirm cron is running (required for email delivery):

   php admin/cli/cron.php

Requirements: Moodle 4.5+ recommended, BigBlueButtonBN ≥ 2024100700, working outgoing email (SMTP or system mailer).
