Does anyone know of a solution to rate data not being saved to CSV export files?

I have a questionnaire in which I have used the 'Rate (scale 1 ..5)' Type question. Some 250 students have answered the questionnaire and all the results appear within the Moodle interface. However, when I export the results as a CSV file the results for the items that used the 'Rate (scale 1 ..5)' Type question are wrong.

There are two versions of this problem:
  1. On my production site I am using Moodle 1.4.3, and Questionnaire Module version 2005030101. In this case all of the item names appear in the top row of the CSV file, but all of the results for the 'Rate (scale 1 ..5)' Type are missing.
  2. On my experimental site I am using Moodle 1.5, and Questionnaire Module version 2005062701. With this set up, only the result of the last 'Rate (scale 1 ..5)' Type is reported. What is more, the reported results are all one less (minus 1) than the actual number chosen.
Having done a search for 'CSV export' within the Questionnaire forum, it seems that I am not the only Moodler to have experienced this problem. For example see Peter Noelle's posting, and Alex Walker's posting.

I realise that for any future questionnaires I make, the solution will be to use another item type (e.g. radio buttons), however is there anyway that I can extract the results for the 'Rate (scale 1 ..5)' Type items in the questionnaire that has already been answered by 250 students on my production site. I had the results sent to my email, so it may be possible for me to convert these 250 emails into a CSV file, however, if anyone knows a simpler solution, I'd much appreciate your advice.

Finally, has the latest Questionnaire module solved the export problem? If so, would installing the latest version allow me to extricate the rate data form an already existing questionnaire?

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply.

I have discovered that the above reported error message only occurs when I select 'Use Maximum' in 'Handling of Multiple Submissions', one of the choices within the Exercise setup. When I select 'Use Mean' everything works fine.

You wrote about your solution; "Note that this isn't a fully satisfactory patch since it causes not the best grade to be reported but rather the mean of multiple attempts, ..."

How does this differ from the present choices in 'Handling of Multiple Submissions' which includes 'Use Mean'? In other words, choosing 'Use Mean' in the 'Handling of Multiple Submissions', causes the mean of multiple attempts to be reported.

Can anyone help with this Exercise problem?

I uploaded an Exercise Description but discovered that there was a mistake in the the description, so deleted it and uploaded a correct version.

Students have been uploading their work to this exercise without any problems, and I have been able to grade their work. However, when I click on 'Administration' in the Exercise, I do not see the students' work and grades, but the following message:

exercise_list_submissions_for_admin: Submission record not found!

However, students are able to see the grade that I have given them. Also, I am able to see the list of final grades when I click on 'Display of Final Grades'.

Finally, when I click on 'Grades..' I see the following fatal error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: exercise_get_best_submission_grades() in /home/petesweb/public_html/moodle/mod/exercise/lib.php on line 274

Students also see this error message when they click on 'Grades..'.

Is it possible that the deletion of the Exercise Description is causing these two problems? Is there a sollution other than deleting the whole Exercise?

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

I am using Moodle 1.4.3
