I would sugges you investigate:
*hotpotatoes (for gap fill exercises) as it is much simpler than the current Moodle quiz
* Moodle quiz - it is (quote)awkward at the moment but will be made much simpler.
*assignment - the online sort - you give them text and questions in your bit and they type in answers directly onto Moodle in their bit.
