You need to enable it from Course navigation > Settings.

Hello Dominique. Well my understanding is that in 4.4 activities are separated by lines and sections by a box around them, so I guess this is deliberate?

It's like the opposite of 4.3 and takes up less space - see a 4.3 section here:
