Do you know what Moodle release(s) will run on MariaDB 10.11? I know, documents like https://moodledev.io/general/releases/4.2 say "Latest", but that is a moving target. May be you can contribute to http://www.syndrega.ch/blog/#php-and-dbms-compatibility-of-major-moodle-releases - the final column, specifically. (I am the author.)

After you copied the source to the moodle code tree, did it kick the database initialization procedure?
