Hi Mary,

I've always wondered what the purpose of the "description fields" was, and if you don't know, who does? I'm not sure, but I don't think it is turned everywhere by default as it used to be, but some modules oblige you to fill it in - Book and Questionnaire for example. I usually just copy the title but always feel mildly irritated. And when I'm tired, I often put the content of a webpage resource in the description field by mistake and then wonder why I can't save the page.

if someone can explain the reason for the description field, I'll feel less grumpy.

Cheers,

Glenys

And it makes me particularly grumpy that when I click on the ? to find what I'm supposed to write, I just get the default:

Hi Jos,

The "multi-rowed, columned table of square icon "buttons" in the "header" topic section that linked to the other topic sections" that Bob mentions is possible without any add-ons and in Moodle 2.0.1 - I've done it here on the Language Teaching Forum. Mary Cooch explains how to here: Make your Moodle course look more like web page. It's a quite time consuming to do, though.

Glenys

Hi Berhe,

Google found me these for the Quiz add-on (I've never used it myself, though):

Drag and drop is a standard option for Hot Potatoes JMix and JMatch. Here's a Hot Potatoes tutorial (Click through the tutorial until you find "The Potatoes, one by one" and then "JMatch") and here's an example: Vocabulary Practice.

Hot Potatoes is very easy to learn to use, but you have to make the exercises on your computer and then upload them to Moodle and display them through the HotPot Module. The scores are included in the gradebook.

Cheers,

Glenys

Hi Darren,

What Mary says should do the trick. Here's an example: Moodle 1.9 for Second Language Teaching - Chapter 5

There's a note at the beginning of that course explaining what guests can and cannot do.

Cheers,

Glenys
