So Tim, could you tell us how to put this into the knowledge of those who decide the features and programming?

I think the following features need to
be brought to the notice of those who can contribute to development so
that they may be included.(I am comp illiterate so sorry for inability
to contribute to codes)
1. questions with multiple choice that should have ALL correct answers ticked to be considered correct. otherwise 0 or negative marks.
2. a type of quiz in which 'x' number of questions are are included from 'n' number of categories. when the result comes, it should tell the score category wise. e.g. the quiz has 10 questions from category A,B,C, D & E each. After the candidate takes it, the result should be able to say: Cat-A: 7/10, Cat-B:5/10, Cat-C: 3/10, Cat-D: 9/10, Cat-E: 4/10, total: 28/50.
3. A feedback should be possible to give to the student based on his score. like for e.g
score:2/10# feedback- very poor
score:5/10# feedback- average
score:7/10# feedback- good etc. This feature Tim Hunt says will be avaialble in 1.7

the same problem was asked by ankit oberoi and i had offered him a slightly more viable {First and (most viable)option is:
Create short answer questions BUT give options in question's language itself.
For e.g.
"Q. What is a Rabbit? Your options are- a.animal b.plant c. virus d.mammal e.reptile" (this was the question . options were written in question's language itself)
Now there will be a space for short answer question which will accept ONLY "a,d " or "d,a" as the correct answers and anything else (like "a" or "d' or anything else) will be wrong and marked negatively.
Try this.
Actually what you have asked is a very tough proposition.
Consider exploring a website called http://quizstar.4teachers.org for this purpose. I have some tests there and i THINK they have something of this sort.}
and also the same solution as above.

I am attaching the lessons guide for u to browse through.
also browse through http://docs.moodle.org/en/Lessons for knowing more abt lessons.
e-mailings thru quizzes is still being worked upon and is not perfect.
a simple way can be:
QUIZ 1=>level1 quiz= a quiz in which pass ing is required.
QUIZ 2 => level 1 score interpretation quiz= this quiz has only one question i.e
Q.how much did you score in quiz 1
options---A. 0-50% (feedback: you still need to study more blah blah)
B. 50-75% ( feedback: good but you need blah blah)
c. >76% (good. now go to quiz called level2 quiz and password is xyzabc)
then repeat this exercise after next level.
in instructions, you must write that STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO FEED THEIR GRADE IN level 1 score interpretation quiz to go to quiz two. Since you are not bothered with them cheating and sharing passwords this is the simplest automated method.(i do it myself)

sending them passwords won't do coz they'll share passwords.
Actually Lessons are designed to do what you wish to do. I hope you have explored that possibility. (though it may not exactly do the quiz's job)
The other option is to make second level quiz not enrollable placing it under a different course.(eg class X english language level1, class X english language level2, class X english language level3. These will be three different courses, Not enrollable autimatically by students.) This way only those students who get the desired marks in first level quiz will be manually enrolled by you in the second level quiz . (for this , you may have to put second level quiz in a separate course heading) and so on. This will put a lot of manual enrollings work on you. But since you are already ready to send the passwords manually, you might as well them enroll them manually.
