"...bringing all of the data from one course to another?"
I just do not understand. WHo says you got to import everything?
When you click import data...then a list pops up about what data do you wish to import. Don't import the ones you do not want.
if however you want to be selective among them, (like import only 2 quizzes and not all) then i am sure deleting them after import would be simpler than what John mentioned.see screenshot

Hello
I am an experienced Moodle user but that of 1.6
Recently I am making a new site with moodle 1.8.2
Problem statement: I have several courses. I wish that casual visitors may be able to get inside the course to read the description etc but not avail the tests/quizzes for which i charge. So i had set an enrollment key.
I then set the settings of course to 'allow guests without the key'
i had set to force separate groups, too.
But when i tried to login as guest, i got the message that this course does not allow guests. I tried various combinations like:
1. setting groups to no.
2. disallowing enrolments on website and allowing only internal enrolment.
3. pay-pal plugin
4. setting default role to guest
But nothing helped.
i am also attaching a screenshot.
PLEASE GUIDE ME.

Hello
I had a site which was built on moodle 1.6. before closing it i had taken a backup on my local drive.
Now i wish to restart that site. Is it OK if i install moodle 1.8 on my site and attempt to restore the backup or should i initially install 1.6, restore site and then try to update to 1.8
Please guide me.
