This has lost some context in being split. I think the original point was around what could be achieved with a "low cost" (say $20 per month) VPS deal. I paraphrase but I hope that captures the idea

Moodle isn't Canvas or Blackboard. All three products have "different views of the world". You need to spend a bit of time with Moodle and understand the underlying ethos.
You may want to look at different Course Formats. There are standard ones and optional plugins. They massively change the way a course looks.
Do you *really* need to backup a course? You can but there are other options under "Course reuse" that might be better.

I don't know what AWS Lightsail is... but... if you have instructions for 4.0.2 then 4.2 should not be significantly different.
However, read the release notes carefully and make sure you have the right versions of everything.
