If you modify Moodle to bypass the requirements then you can't complain if anything doesn't work. It's not a great idea.

That's cool. Of course, this (or something like it) should be the default. The 'standard' unoconv configuration is not fit for purpose.

I could have missed the memo... but I can't see that Richard has even mentioned Ghostscript.
It's an option on the form when you do the copying process.
