PLEASE tell me that you took a full backup of Moodle first? The chances of doing an Ubuntu update and Moodle surviving are remote.

In this case, it looks as though PHP has ceased to be installed. I would always advise taking a backup of Moodle, installing a clean (newer) version of Ubuntu and then restoring Moodle.

Lambda is a paid for theme, yes? So comes with support?

To be certain, I would enable Debugging and get the full trace for this error.

I would just add that overriding capabilities AT ALL is not something to be done lightly. The problem is that it's not immediately obvious. The person that did it forgets or moves on and it becomes a massive nightmare for the person who has to sort the "weird problem".

Given that I've just written something with over 50 AJAX web services.... do we have any idea when the "old" system might get deprecated?
