Albert, I haven't tested it myself, but DFS-R is correct way to synchronize, on clustering (farming) scenario, you can either go with NLB or ARR, both are available in IIS where ARR gives more control over how to distribute the users overs servers. So I assume, for data-root you can always assign a single server.

It all depends platform one is more confortable with, From absolute start to finish, it doesnt takes more than 20 minutes to start moodle, where I said start (it includes all Installations and configurations of IIS, PHP and  MySQL/MariaDB).

Its not violation of anything, as you are asking question, not offering services.

and as for Lynda's course on Moodle, that as far as I know, was developed  by Mary Cooch from Moodle head quarters, as you'll see her many replies around this forum.

looks like you've been playing with permissions on the server and allocated wrong permissions to wrong folder as I can see your root directory listings, means you haven't still secured your root directory to be displayed.

Have a look into your htaccess file and see whats there.
