If the Administration block is not showing, check to make sure the instructor hasn't removed it. If they did, you can re-add it by Turning editing on and then on the right side, find the Blocks block. Select the pulldown menu and select Administration. This will re-add the block.

If the Administration block is there and students can't see the Grades link, check to make sure the instructor hasn't it in the course settings. To check, select Settings in the Administration block and then locate the Show gradebook to students field. Make sure it is set to Yes and save your settings.

If after all this they still don't see it, then it may be a case of permissions that you have set for each role. Try the options above first though and then report your results.

Moodle in English -> Gradebook -> My formula doesn't work -> Re: My formula doesn't work

The first part where you drop the lowest grade you can completely get rid of. Moodle has a built-in drop the lowest feature. To use go into Categories and items and then select Full View link underneath the tabs. There will be a column for drop the lowest. Entering a 1 drops the lowest, entering 2 drops two lowest and so on.

You will first want to arrange these grades into a category though. The final exam should not be in this category.

Your formula would then be similar to what is below. For my formula I am using CT to represent the category total of all those assignments.

=sum((CT+(FinalExam*2))/8)

Can you post some screenshots? Particulary helpful would be shots of the quiz submissions page showing the score (where it shows all the results; blur out any names if needed), the Editing Quiz page (where it shows which questions you have added to the quiz, how much each is worth, the total and max grade) and of the gradebook itself so we can see how it is displaying there.

All the course totals have been overridden. Since the course total is overridden, it is then ignoring all the weighting you have set. Turn off the overrides and then everything should calculate correctly.

Can you take a screenshot of one of the student's user report view? Blur out the name but I think not having the category names is making it a little more difficult because the excel file image from original post looks to be arranged a little bit differently than the Categories & Items page you posted (excel shows categories of 3 assignments, 4 assignments, 1 assignment and 3 assignments - Categoies and Items shows 3, 4, 3, 1). In addition, it looks like the math you did in the excel image is also off so that may be leading to an even bigger discrepancy. You can see this in this video.

So if you can provide a couple more screenshots that would be helpful. The things I think we would need are:

  1. Screenshot of your Categories & Items in Full View so that we can see if it is set to have an offset, dropping the lowest grade or something else.
  2. Screenshot of a student's user report so that we can see the exact order of categories and how it is being calculated. Blur out any student name.
  3. Screenshot of the entire grader report so that we can see if any grades have been overridden (indicated by an orange tint to the cell). Blur out or cut out the student info columns from left side but try to leave entact the rest of the grader report.
