OK, I'm hoping we can get a good, solid version 1.0.9 released before the end of May.
Although the current CVS already contains a huge array of new stuff (I need to update the page about it), there are a number of features and fixes that still need to be done before the 1.0.9 release. They all have different reasons for being in this list - some are big problems and and some are just really easy to fix.

If anyone wants to help with any of these please let me know - your help will be much appreciated!

I just did something I've been wanting to do for a very long time - I fixed up the forum display:
eg http://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?f=32
I hope you find it a lot more usable, especially for large forums (like the ones in this course, for example).
Note the new "last post" date. On old discussions this defaults to being the same as the date of the discussion starter, but any new posts to a discussion will change this date, and "bump" the discussion up to the top of the forum display.

As you've found, gzip is not the same as unzip and zip.
The default settings work on Redhat, so if you get errors they might not be installed (you could install them, maybe).
The current CVS and nightlies now have a zip built in, which will remove this problem entirely (and also means zip now works on Windows).

No problem. The picture is scaled when it is uploaded, and cached as 100x100 and 35x35 sizes (in dataroot/users).
