I don't think these errors are anything to do with cron or Moodle ... "named" is the name daemon ... ie the DNS server on that machine.
Perhaps they have some unusual checking in place ... have you tried referring to your server (in the cron command) using the IP number instead of the DNS name?

Can someone who has recently done this (and I'm sure there are many subscribed here!) please post a reliable, easy-to-follow, step-by-step description of how to install Apache, MySQL and PHP on a Windows machine (XP, NT or W2K)?
I'd love to include this in the documentation to help give non-technical (and technical!) people a better chance of setting up Moodle on their own computers.
I had a quick attempt using FoxServ but ran into some trouble with MySQL, and I haven't got time to chase up the problem:

Feel free to edit or add to that Wiki page, or simply reply to this message and include it in your post to this discussion. You can use any WAMP package you feel is best (that is, results in the fewest number of steps!).

Yes, that does look fine. What's more that exact content displays fine for me when included in an auto-format message, such as this one, for example (note the smileys are being pulled from your site, too):
Very strange ... Make sure you have the very latest lib/weblib.php. Try a completely fresh CVS or latest-nightly installation.
