Resetting Forum Totals

Resetting Forum Totals

I've had a few students comment that the forum totals reflect all the
classes, not just the current class. What seems to be happening is that when the class is finished and the classroom cleaned the forum totals are not being deleted and it just continues to compile. When a student looks at the forums they see many posts. We have not even gotten to week 4 and there are 91 posts there. 91 is the number shown, however when you open the forum there are no written posts.

Thank you in advance for any help on this.

Kind regard,
Karen Bonaker

Hi Karen,

Are you on 1.8? I got that impression from earlier posts.

This problem may be a known bug.

Having search through the forums and then the tracker,
I have found that a bug of this sort was first reported in version 1.6, but was fully fixed in 1.9!

So if you are on 1.8, moving up to 1.9.1 may fix this problem.

The tracker link is:
http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-6228
(not that trackers make for light reading, you understand).

However, there have been some issues (bugs) generated by the upgrade from 1.8 to 1.9!
So this is not a trivial matter in itself.
This is because the Gradebook in 1.9 is a big departure from the one in 1.8!

So are you currently using GradebookPlus2 (an add-on in 1.8)?
This has been superseded in 1.9, but is better fixed in 1.9.1 (so use 1.9.1).
http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB-76
...has the details.

Are you currently using fairly complex weighting of grades?
e.g. g1 x 0.4 + g2 x 0.3 + g3 x 0.3
Some of these calculations have not been handled the same in 1.9, producing somewhat different results;
an expected fix for this is scheduled for 1.9.2.
http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-14094
...explains.

You might like to play it safe, and create a new install of 1.9.1.
Do a full Backup of all courses, users, resources - everything - and then Restore everything into the new install.
This would leave your exisitng 1.8 unscathed - just in case!

Or maybe I was wrong, and you've been on 1.9 all along.
In which case please ignore everything I've said!!!

Regards,

John

Thank you very much John,
I appreciate your efforts. We are on 1.8 and plan to upgrade on the 7th of June. I will let you know specifically if this is resolved with the upgrade to 1.9.1.

Thank you again,
Karen
