Japanese email addresses

Japanese email addresses are a problem for moodle due to some of the characters used in many email addresses from docomo and other services. The problem occurs during signup, and during changes to a profile email address. The solution to this problem is to navigate to the user folder in moodle and search out the edit_form.php and editadvanced_form.php files. You will need to remove the portions of the script that deal with validation of the email characters. Remember to backup these files so you can restore them if you make a mistake. The portion of the script that deals with checking to see if an email address already exists or not can be left as it is. This, of course, is not the best solution to the problem, but it is something I can recommend as a temporary solution.

Hi Thomas,
you may be interested in voting for a change to Moodle which would allow Moodle admins to allow "illegal" Japanese email addresses.

Please go to the Moodle Tracker issue MDL-6705, click on "voting" (in the left hand column) and vote to have this issue fixed.

cheers
Gordon
