Ok, I've been editing the permissions and I've managed to sabatoge myself.
my Teacher, student roles lost the ability to send messages - that is to click on someone's name to get to their small profile, click on the 'send message' tab. These 2 roles no longer see a 'send message' tab.
However, I have a coure creator who DOES have this ability. I thought - ah ha, I'll do a side-by-side comparison to figure it out. Nope.
All 3 roles have the likely capability set to 'allow'
- Send messages to any usermoodle/site:sendmessage set to allow
- Send a message to many peoplemoodle/course:bulkmessaging set to allow
So, I had the bright idea of printing all 3 and doing a side-by-side comparison to figure out what is different. Although there are differences (naturally), there are none that make sense. That is there are no capabilities that creator has set to allow, that teacher, student have sent to 'not set' that seem to have an application to messages.
Can anyone clue me in to what might be going on?
Oh, and one little suggestion for an upcoming upgrade? Have a button to return to the default settings.
