How do I restrict the access of some users to a certain forum so that they can only read?

How do I restrict the access of some users to a forum so that they can only read while other students continue with full acess to the same forum ?

I would like to allow some students who have finhished my courses do carry on login in to it, just to follow the discussions in the foruns of a course where they are registered.
But other studentes which are registered and have not finished the course should continue having full access.

The students who have finished the course should not be allowed do have wrinting permissions to the foruns.

Please help me.
I did not find ways of doing it in the manuals.

I tried to follow the instructions but it did not work because after clicking UPDATING THIS FORUM I found no menu for editing roles.

I may have to update my moodle vesion and I do not know how.

Hi Flavio,

In Moodle 1.6 you can set read-only access to a forum by updating it and selecting the option "No discussions, no replies". All students will have restricted access.

Roles and capabilities, in Moodle 1.7 onwards, provide many possibilities. Please see the forum permissions documentation for more information.
