I had this link sent to me and was wondering what some of the developers think about this? It sounds incredible! Is it for real? This is just a partial posting. Visit their site for the rest

Invisionix
Systems (http://www.invisionix.org) announced today the pre-alpha
release (version 0.2) of its flagship product, the Invisionix Roaming
System - Remote (IRSR), an Internet based metasystem with the potential
to radically change the landscape of the computer processing and
digital communications arenas in existence today. This Open Source
system is the most unique mobile computer software system of its kind
and promises to provide a formidable challenge to some of the
traditional computing platforms.
The IRSR essentially
allows its audience to use any Internet enabled device in order to
access the full functionality of a virtual supercomputer, with
practically unlimited processing and storage capacities, and at an
embarrassingly low price. The IRSR through its built-in ability to
utilize the many existing computer system architectures readily
available on the Internet today, provides ultra high performance via
its inherent use of the Internets many computational resources. The
concept is relevant to both loosely coupled systems based software
applications and tightly coupled processor based applications.
I am a tad suspicous of something that will "so radically change the landscape of the computer processing and digital communications systems in existance today" yet after browsing the site I don't know what it does.
Yep, me too.
As a matter of fact, we already have "something that will so radically change the landscape of the computer processing and digital communications systems in existance today".
It's called:......the Internet!
And guess what, It's free.
Runy
Yeh, the press release has every bullsh*t marketing phrase in the business - I think they missed "paradigm shift" but maybe I just didn't look closely enough
I worry when I see so called "open source" software wrapped inside what is obviously a very "professional" marketing effort. I have no idea what it does either!
Anyway this is copied from their sourceforge page, which brings it down to earth a bit...
"'Invisionix Systems' portable Instant Messenger (IRSIM) uses PHP and mySQL. This Open Source program interacts with ICQ, MSN, AIM, Yahoo and Jabber IMs. It features database message buffers, login, a contact list, and message input/output windows."
...so its another messenger product then!

I had a quick look at the source and it also includes webmail ...
There are hundreds of groupware and CMS packages that already do this.
Mmm ... Anyone up for creating a Moodle module so we can interactively play "Buzzword Bingo"?

Their features page at http://www.invisionix.org/features.html seems to indicate two products, one clearly indicates a PHP Instant Messenger (IRSIM), and the other product offers the world of supercomputers at your fingertips (IRSR) .
Strange and spectacular visions, seemingly out of this world, but no mention of 'magic mushrooms' here. A demo site would have brought these apparent lofty visions down to planet Earth..... perhaps.
Funny how marketing can sometimes actually harm the perception of a product rather than enhance it. In reference to buzzword bingo perhaps it could be implemented somwhow as part of a filter?
And who said web developers don't have a sense of humor?
But maybe you won't be laughing so hard when all the 'invisionix' s go barrelling past you in their shiny new super-computers, available at a very reasonable price they add.
The supercomputer beta is available for download at their site. I'm thinking it might be a open source venture into p2p. Something like Kazaa, but for sharing computing power instead of swapping files, kind of a reversed SETI. Some group somewhere recently built a super computer by linking a bunch of pcs. It was done at a fraction of the price of a conventional one if I remember correctly. Maybe they just figured out how to use the internet for those links (you see, I Did Know About The Internet
How fast can a supercomputer crunch a Moodle page, process, query, exchange etc?? Just wondering?
