I came across the surveys that were part of the moodle download and am interested in finding out the sources for these and any literature or documentation on the terminology used in the survey results... I can interpolate the terminology, but an authorative source would be great.

At the point of adding the survey you'll see a small yellow help symbol there. Click it to see the help document that explains the different surveys and gives full references.
