Unenroll Me

It seems there is an option for a student to Unenroll in a class, is there a way to remove this setting? Or what really happens if the Student chooses this option.

I would like to be able to unenroll a student manually.

Thank you ,
Karen

There is a capability, something like 'unenrol self' (sorry don't have a computer in front of me to look for exact name). If you un set this for students, the button will dissapear.

Hi Karen,

As Eric says, student unenrolment may be enabled/disabled by allowing/not setting a capability. By default, students are unable to unenrol themselves from courses. Please see the unenrolment documentation for further details.

This strand has been quiet for some time, but I was mondering ... If I allow students to unenroll themselves but have set up groups within a course, will students still be listed as group members if they re-enroll in a course?

Hi Adam! We meet again on another Moodle forum smile
If they unenrol and then re-enrol with the simple 'do you want to enrol on this course?' message -then - no -they will not be put back into the group they were in before. Did you have a particular thing you were wanting to do?

Hi Mary (again!)

Thanks for getting back to me.  I did suspected that would be the way it worked.  The kids have such a long list of courses on their "My Courses" block.  In History (my real job when I'm not admin").  We have Yr 7 split into a new course for each half term as in line with aspects of new Curriculum changes.  I would have liked to experiment and allow students to unenroll from courses but then be able to revisit a course later in the year and be part of the same group.

All I have to do is set up an entrollment key, I guess.  I just found the kids assumed they couldn't get into a course even though I did set the enrollment key as their own group name (7S, 7A etc!).  Even staff just look blank at enrollment keys.

Have you any other solutions?

Oh and Groups - Do you know if there will be any movement in future moodle versions to allow us to upload an MIS based group when creating groups rather than uploading the users  in "Assign Roles" from MIS and then individually assigning them by working out which ones have a zero next to their name when assigning a group?

Also I still like checking your front page to see your lay-out.  You are a benchmark for us.  Brill.

Hi Adam, and thanks for the compliment smile I think enrollment keys is def the way to go as long as you tell the pupils (and staff!) about them. I'm doing the same here. It means they do all the work and you don't have to.

I don't use the MIS tool as I've found uploading by csv perfectly adequate but you can upload users straight into groups in courses via csv if you want to http://docs.moodle.org/en/Upload_users#Upload_file_format
as long as you check http://docs.moodle.org/en/Upload_users#Updating_existing_accounts
