Suggestions on improving the Grade page

I have to grade lots of essay assignments of onlinetext.

I get bored to death with underlining the mistakes and typing the same error types. Here is the routine case.

I just wonder if it's possible for me to select the error part, choose an customized error message from a dropdownlist (just like the font options), and make everthing done.

Hi Billy,

This is not Moodle-specific but, if you want to create a collection of often-used words or phrases, may I suggest using the excellent Clippings manager for FireFox (I do hope you are using FireFox, aren't you?wink).

Billy - That is an interesting suggestion. I would create it as a feature request or improvement in the tracker. Giving users some default comments could be helpful in grading assignments, essays, etc. It would be nice to have some of these built in to the HTML editor. I had explored the possibility of making some custom shortcuts but quickly realized that almost all of the keyboard shortcuts already get used for something. What you suggest should not be too bad to program; however, it would require making a table to store the data for each user. Thanks for the suggestion. Peace - Anthony

Anthony  -- Thanks for your prompt reply. I surely love the feature request you mentioned, and can't wait to try it. Would you email me when you finish this improvement? BTW, we can have a chat about Tai Chi if possible 微笑 --Billy Yang.

Billy - Just to be clear, I am not planning to work on the improvement; however, if you create a feature request it would allow for others to consider working on it. I'm happy to talk about Tai Chi. I've been fortunate to be able to take classes with Master Zhang Xue Xin in San Francisco (http://www.silkreeler.com) who teaches Chen style. You may want to add Tai Chi to your profile interests so "network" with others who are interested in Tai Chi. Peace - Anthony

Billy,

I can't resist some shameless self-promotion on this issue, and hope it will not be perceived as spam as it directly pertains to your question.

I was in your position some years ago (I teach Composition courses online), so I invented something, T.A. Toolbar, to do just what you're asking for. If you're using Word 2003, it can, with the click of a button, insert comments on oft-repeated writing errors. It's not a Moodle plug-in, but it can work with Moodle if you ask your students to deliver (upload) their work as either MS Word or as .rtf (rich text format) documents. Fair warning: this became a commercial enterprise for me even though I'm full-time faculty at a community college--so there's a little money involved ($40). Perhaps your department will buy it for you.

Check it out at www.tatoolbar.com. There's a little video tour.

A stand-alone version of T.A. Toolbar that will work with Word 2007 is in the works. BTW, if you want to run Word 2003 and 2007 at the same time, email me off-list and I'll explain how to do that.
