Hi,
I just wanted to introduce myself and to let you know about the use of Moodle in our University in Portugal.
I'm a physics professor at the University of Porto in Portugal. I'm a member of the GNU and the Debian projects and one of the main developpers of Savannah (http://savannah.gnu.org) which is a clone of Sourceforge being used for Free Software projects development.
I've been very keen on using the web to support teaching since very early (1993) and I was very upset that our School was starting to use proprietary packages such as WebCT and Luvit, which we cannot collaborate to their development, create some unwanted dependences on external companies and tend to overdue it (centralizing mail, chat and lots of stuff in one single swiss-army-knife package is not a good idea).
I was very glad when I discovered Moodle last week and we have already adopted it in our Department. You are welcome to visit our site http://fisica.fe.up.pt/ensino although it is all
in Portuguese.
I intend to contribute to the development of Moodle. I can also copy a lot of nice ideas I've found in Moodle to improve our Savannah software, which is also based on PHP/MySQL and has a lot of common tasks that appear in both systems.
Cheers,
Jaime
Hi, Jaime.
Welcome! It's a pleasure to have you here.
I'm particularly interested to hear about Savannah, as one of the next things I most want to work on is a tracker module for Moodle, something of a cross between these forums and the Savannah/Sourceforge style of tracker.
So perhaps there are opportunities for some cross-fertilisation, which we can talk about more in the Developer forum.
Cheers,
Martin
