Is there a way we can use the same assignment in 2 differents courses. I don't want to maintain 2 assignements.
Unfortunately, there is currently no mechanism in Moodle for sharing activities among courses. Use Backup/Restore to copy the activity. If you are the teacher in both courses, you can use Import, which is simpler than Backup/Restore.
Could utilise a meta-course purely for this assignment?
Peter said he wants to use the same assignment in two different courses. Creating a metacourse just for one activity will introduce more complexity than it's worth. It would be much easier to copy the activity. If Peter had said he wanted to share all the activities and resources among two or more sections of the same course, then a metacourse would be a reasonable solution.
And how about a course with two different groups?
Then the two groups will share everything in the course, not just the assignment. Peter said they're different courses. By that, I assume he means that, except for the one common assignment, their activities and resources aren't meant to be shared.
