Importing Powerpoint & Blackboard

Importing Powerpoint & Blackboard

I currently have installed 1.8 and have attempted to import a PowerPoint presentation with no luck; each attempt is met with the same outcome, even if I zip up the content. So I would like to ask if there is anyone out there that has successfully imported a PowerPoint presentation into Moodle. If you have can you please provide a detailed process of how you accomplished it?

In addition to the above, I also attempted to import Blackboard content such as test banks; the system informs me that there are no questions within the package. Then I attempt the same again and it produces 4 garbage files. It does not matter if it is BB5 or BB6 test banks the result is the same.

With the importation of Blackboard (Course) Export content the layout is produced but all of the content tags are missing from the restored course. In short I am able to see the hierarchical structure of the course but there are no labels listed. Any Ideas????

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Jesus

There are a few ways to import Powerpoints but none may provide the results you expect/require.

My Prefered method is to save the Powerpoint presentation as a Webpage (html).

Choose File/ Save as Webpage

Give the html page a name iesadMyPowerpoint.html) and for Save as Type choose "Webpage(*.htm, *html)

This creates a html page with the title of the Powerpoint ie: myPowerpoint.html and also a folder with all the javascript, xml html files required to run the slides etc.

Then, instead of zipping the files and importing them, I create a Resource for the Course and choose Webpage, then point to the html file.

When the User clicks on this resource it open the Powerpoint webpage.

Importing the Powerpoint directly makes Moodle put each slide on a seperate page also but removes any animations.Effects etc and places all Slide Text. images on the page.

The inported Powerpoints are best kept simple with text and images being static.

It would be better if Moodle could link to an .exe file, which would then make it more practical to create a "Package for CD" option, (link to the PowerpointViewer) which would show powerpoints correctly.

hope this helps.

I do think a PowerPoint file can not be imported and played directly in Moodle.

Usually, to view  a PowerPoint, you need the full version of PowerPoint or PowerPoint viewer. So, we have to resave PowerPoint in other file format,

like html/flash/AICC/SCORM course

1. To save your PowerPoint as a html page and Moodle can display it correctly.
But the disadvantage is that you can not retail animations, transitions or inserted audio in the webpage.

2. To convert PowerPoint to flash. This flash can be uploaded to Moodle.

How to convert PowerPoint to flash, you can read this

How to uplaod flash to Moodle, you can read this

3. To convert PowerPoint to SCORM course

There are some converters out there to convert PowerPoint to learning courses with SCORM course , like PPT2Flash Professional
This scorm package can be added as a course in Moodle with Add an Activity.
