Dear All,
I have the same problem , i am running 1.7.1+, when FORCE to subscribe everyone to (forum,site news), no one receiving any mails, but when i choose NOT to force everyone, they the existied users receives the mails.
Note: version 1.6, 1.6.4 working fine
version 1.7, 1.8 not working
Please help.

Cron job set up fine.

Is it all users or just users with a particular kind of email address or just forums with a particular number of participants.
We have an issue too and I thought at first it was hotmail addresses as they are the ones that keep coming back, but when we tried it on a mini forum three messages and three people they all went through fine although hotmail.com put the messages straight in the spam folder (have our users looked there for them?). I'm wondering if it is the number of individual messages at the same time which is causing hotmail to think it is a spam attack and thereby returning the messages from whence they came. I'm struggling to get to the bottom of it I have to say.
If it is AOL returning your messages I think they should go through if a person's profile is set to plain text messages, but again it is an unproven theory at this time, we don't have many learners with aol addresses.
Not much help I know, but maybe it will shine a light on something.

Nothing to do with Hotmail or AOL. I only noticed the problem after installing a couple new 1.7.1+ servers.
I am testing with users that do not use these services.

Cron runs fine and the mails get sent but end up in the queue.
I've dropped plain smtp messages into the pickup folder and they get sent straight away no matter what the to and from addresses are. However the forum mails just sit in the queue.
Now my site is currently an IP address only and I dont have a domain name mapped to it. However the fact that simple smpt messages are sent without hassle and the forum one reside in the queue leads me to believe that the issue may be with the content of the forum mails?
Any help on this is appreciated as it seems to be an issue for many users
