Resources and activities are not shown

Hi all, I'd like to plead for help ...

In my installation of Moodle (1.7) all links to activities and resources (link to news at homepage in main menu, activities/resources in all courses) are not shown - it shows only the icon for activity/resource, but not the text with link.

Please, anyone knows what to do with this problem?

php.ini:
magic_quotes_runtime = On -- activities are not shown
magic_quotes_runtime = Off -- activities are shown.
