Moodle documentation: How to viewlets

Hi,

We could build some how to viewlets, like this:

http://www.moreresults.nl/viewlets/how_to_read_outlook_email_in_your_goldmine_viewlet.html

When you like it, i suggest to start a dialog what kind of clips we should build.

First of all, let me know if this could help us,

Perry

I quite like the idea of viewlets, but the cost of the software, if you wish to get rid of the built-in advertising, is a bit much.

However I may use the freeware version for some of the IT courses I am planning, as the ads won't matter. Can't really use them in the legal courses we are creating though...not deemed "Professional" enough by the powers that be.

So far I am managing ok in the "Moodle for students" course without them...who knows, I may do some viewlets for it in a later revision.

Has anyone tried Camstudio for creating viewlets? It is a freeware screen recorder that saves screen activity to avi or swf files. I is also capable of adding screen annotations and recording audio. I haven't used it to create flash files yet, but works great with avi.

I've used Camstudio and I found it very easy to use, and it produces great results in .swf as well as .avi creation.  I also bought qarbon's viewlet builder (price not too bad for the educational version) which is equally as good.  On balance, camstudio is better because it's free!

I didn't get to try this before when Prem mentioned it but I just tried it now - works great and I can highly recommend it.

We just need a combined effort to produce a bunch of these little things for some sort of central documentation.

Martin mentioned "I just tried it now"

I just went to
http://www.ehelp.com/camstudio/product/screenrecording/

and there was a note on the page saying it wasn't ready to download yet. How did you get it Martin?

thanks.

It seems that there have been some changes in the Rendersoftware company - the site has been moved to ehelp and the software cannot be downloaded now. If you want, I can e-mail it to you (approx. 1.2 MB).

I've put it here, at least until their site works again.

Looks like they might have been bought out by Macromedia... not a cheap replacement, either...

Another possibility, if you are a Macintosh user, or have access to one, is snapZpro. It will capture screenstrokes and make quicktime movies, with audio. Cost for OS X version with quicktime is in the $50 range.
You can see an example of what it does at:
www.atomiclearning.com
They use SnapZpro.
