Is that the kind of stuff tyou're looking for?
Sounds like an interesting project but you haven't attached the proposal so it's not clear where the evidence for your comparison is coming from. Is this an organisational case study or are you polling the views of a range of users?
This paper is quite good for theorising 'the user'.
Cavaye, A. (1995) User participation in system development revisited. Information and Management, 311-323.
This paper uses 'soft systems' approach.
Vidgen, R. (1997) Stakeholders, soft systems and technology: Separation and mediation in the analysis of information system requirements. Information Systems Journal, 7, 21-46.
There is a big information systems evaluation literature (taking an investment/ROI perspective) try this search http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=smithson+evaluation&hl=en&lr=&btnG=Search You'll probably find this useful (if only to see what criteria it uses) http://www.edutools.info/index.jsp?pj=1
Good luck.
Hello Frances.
Thank you so much for your reply. I did think I had attached the document… so here goes again. The project is slight bottom about face where I have to come up with 4 hypotheses for the Project Proposal before actually reading much about the subject. After the Proposal comes the Feasibility study (which is what I am doing now) which may modify the hypotheses to fit gasps in the literature. Some times it is a little bit like having to learn to drive to pass the test rather than learning to drive.
I believe that this is both and organisational and user view analysis.
Thank you again for your help

I'd be interested to read your proposal, so I can see the angle your going for.
The college where I work have just gone through the process of implementing Moodle across college. I work in MIS and IT and have been responsible for the technical side of the implementation, as well as consulting with faculty, management etc.
I introduced Moodle to various members of our management last year, and put it in place on a server over summer. We piloted it with 3 curriculum areas during september (Business, Pyschology and Desgin Technology) and then rolled it out to all college areas along with a Moodle training program (the newley appointed head of e-learning) at the start of october. So far its been very succesfull with course leaders right across the college really getting stuck in - we were a little apprehensive considering that Moodle seems to be a very 'grass roots' driven program. Our approach was to replace all of the legacy intranet apps at once with Moodle and push it out across the college, we wern't sure how this would work, but staff have taken to it fantasticaly.
Our moodle is here: http://newmancollege.net
If it would help your project, I'd be happy to document our impemenation for you and get you the opinions of different members of staff, view of management etc. Unfortunatley I have no experience with commerical VLE's, so I can't help you on that side of things.

Hello Rick,
I could not help but interfere for you have scratched exactly where it itches me. I am also a student on project and my project tittle is simply " Implementing a discussion group in Usmanu Danfodiyo University (My school) using Moodle".
Since you are in the technical aspect of moodle, you coul help me with some ideas where i get stuck. I am doing my project under MIS in our school and soon i would be entrusted with the task of impelmenting Moodle for our school. I would be happy if you can let me see your implementation documentation.
Thanks,
Murtala
Hello Rick
I would be interested in any studies that you undertook that lead you to Moodle. what the financial costs were to install and impliment it. And any user feed back analysis from the students, academic staff and IT support staff.
Sorry i hope that is not asking to much
