what Resource or activity should I add on the frontpage to have the look of moodle.org ?

I see the documentation mention adding HTML code and a css style.

where exactly ? I tried all of the blocks/options available and the one that came close to that was labels. But when adding a second label it was included in the same "block" with the first one.

You're referring to this link right?

From the admin block on the front page of your moodle site go to configuration --> site settings and make sure that the setting for "Include a topic setting?" (or words to that effect) is set to "Yes".

Then paste the HTML code in the topic box that will then appear on the front page (make sure you toggle the text mode to code view first).

Finally add the css code to the styles_layout.css file in the theme folder corresponding to the theme you are currently using for the site.

Thanks Tim

I ended up with blocks of text the way that I want it but not in the center of the frontpage . That's why I was thinking that I should add a resource or activity

see image.

I think that the top block where you have written "IE7 is not available for download..." is the topic box. If you login as the admin and then turn editing on and then edit the topic box, you can add the HTML there.
