I'm having permission difficulties.
My provider says I can chmod 777 directories through FTP but I'm not sure how to do this. Do I have to go through an FTP application like Leech or can I do it through WebFTP (cf panel screenshot)
It looks like you can do it through Web FTP. I'm not sure about thet mechanics but it would appear you click on the folder your wish to set permissions for then click the check boxes to set the desired permissions folllowed by clicking the "change" button.
Read = 4
Write = 2
Exec = 1
For chmod 777 you would check all the boxes
