We need a tool within Moodle to include audio, video and also be like a webmeeting walking people through a powerpoint or like a web meeting.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Andrea
I tried to download the DimDim Alpha but discovered it is all Windows. I know they have been promoting a Linux compatible version, but if it's out, it is either "mixed in" with all the Windows .NET files or is not in a documented link that I could find.
Fair wrning: The DimDim distribution (in .zip format) is 43 MB. That may make a Moodle integration too large for some of our family
Hi Rajesh,
Dimdim web meeting activity module was installed in an instance of moodle. i was able to add the dimdim web meeting activity module to a course as a site administrator. on clicking on the link "click here to join meeting", i noticed that a meeting key was genereated randomly for the created dimdim web activity instance.
i decided to logout as an admin and login as a different user registered for the same course. on clicking on the link "click here ro join in the meeting", i clicked on the join in button and a message
What about ePresence? http://www.ePresence.tv.
It's open source. They already work with ATutor. There is a consortium. A basic membership runs about $450. You could probably get them to let you join for free, seeing that you're a Titan in the Open Source Education Universe.
What has happened to DIMDIM? It appears that it got all quiet and there are hardly any activities in the forums.
Is anyone using it?
I had plans to use it in my training, but as I can only find unanswered postings about problems with this and that, I am no longer sure if I should give it a go.

Hi all
Since no one seems to know what happen to DIMDIM, I have contacted Sundar Subramanian, he was very supportive and offered to demonstrate DIMDIM. Yessss, it works fantastic. According to Sundar, DIMDIM has secured significant funding to further develop the product. He said the Moodle plugin is stable and can be used, however video is not supported as yet.
He offered to anyone interested to use DIMDIM on the DIMDIM server and he is happy for us to spread the word.
I had a quick look around and it is very simple to use (even I find my way around and that means something).

There is a direct link, once you are familiar with the system. www1.dimdim.com/Dimdim
Sundar is happy for us, and anyone interested, to use the system and to report any bugs, problems or requests. feedback@dimdim.com or use the link on the website.
Hi,
Dimdim is an open source web conference software. It can be used for Audio/Video, Desktop and Application sharing along with public and private chat option. More information is available on www.dimdim.com.
Dimdim Integration with Moodle is ready and the Dimdim Moodle Integration pack is available at:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=176809
Dimdim is added as an activity within Moodle and Dimdim Web meeting can directly be invoked from the Moodle itself. Please tell me if you face any problems/issues.
Thanks and Regards,

Hello,
I would like to make a reference to our product Thinsy Virtual Conference - http://www.thinsy.com/c/conference
The Thinsy Virtual Conference product is designed with Virtual Classroom applications in mind.
Features includes
The client is any browser with Adobe Flash installed. No software download or install is required, even for the Instructor. Windows, Apple Mac, and Linux desktops are all compatible with the Thinsy Virtual Conference.
We've designed our product to use a dedicated desktop running in your own cloud for the Classroom. This enables the Teacher/Instructor to keep all his private email, IM etc. out of the class. It greatly improves usability of the product.
Finally, our one touch record enables the Virtual Class to be recorded. The recording consists of the Instructor video, conference audio, chat and the shared desktop. The recording can be uploaded to any web server, and viewed on any browser with the Adobe Flash plug in installed.
Thanks,
Jagane Sundar

I have complains about both Dim Dim and Big BLue Button.
Dim Dim relies on the Dim Dim server which when installed automically detects only a set of ports (80, 4001...) which is used by IIS Server and so is not free. I can't seem to change the port numbers.
Big blue button relies on the server that needs to be purchased, I can't seemed to a find a free product.....
Any help I can get on this is most appreciated??
I highly recommend WebConference.com's Moodle Plugin
http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB/component/10592
Allows Video Conferencing, YouTube Videos, PowerPoint, Document Sharing, and much more.
Openmeetings has the the great Moodle plug-in. We can install Openmeetings for you.
"There is no need to create any new web based conferencing system as there are already big players in this market such as WebEx, gomeetnow, gotomeeting, RHUB appliance etc. They provide both Technology and Support required for web conferencing. However, If you really want to do it yourself, you may consider to use the following technology built in browser:
1. Flash
2. WebRTC from Google, which only applies to Chrome though.
3. Or develop plug-ins in C++ for different browsers. This is the most expensive direction but also is the most flexible direction."
We have integrated WebEx, GoToMeeting/GoToTraining and MS Live Meeting into the Moodle course page. We're now looking to integrate Lync (instead of Live Meeting) as well when the required web APIs are released.
@Michael, as you suggested, we preferred bringing the big players to Moodle, rather than creating a new (and usually inferior) web conferencing experience.
Hi Pauline
Our support for GoToTraining and GoToMeeting is still in beta (we have it installed by a couple of clients for a couple of months now). We do support Moodle 1.9 and 2.x (including 2.5) for all our web conferencing integrations.GoToWebinar does not have the required APIs available yet.
Perhaps you would like to be a beta tester as well? Feel free to reach out to me at jacov_m@groopex.com.

Jacov
