Hi there,

although setting a grade to pass is a teachers’ decision based on many particular reasons, interesting cases came up when that setting  leads to different results: from activity completion or gradebook —green (passed) or red (failed)— to restricted access activity or awarding a badge or personalizing learning or even gamification.

Now, about activity completion & restricted access activity I just saw a recent issue that reminds me this other case: MDL-75582 .

I don’t know if it would be related but I noticed that (I don’t know since what version of Moodle) any grading activity changes the Grade to pass default setting to 0 (zero) instead of remain as an empty field, as it should, unless the teacher set a particular value.

Whatever the cause, I hope this activity completion issue —still happening in M4.5— could be solved. Thanks in advance.

If the issue is not resolved in 4.5 there is a workaround for earlier versions for activity completion. John John figured out to have auto completion to work with both opposite options satisfying the set grade pass for completion (Permilink to post).
Not sure about the colors for completion status because I have trouble with red/green colors.

thanks for your answer. It was actually that post that reminds me the Moodle Tracker I quoted.

And I found very clever the alternative path given by John John but I also think it was temporarily and for some imminent cases.

In fact, activity restriction (where the changes have to be done in order to get into it) works fine. What is not working is the activity completion status that remains as To Do even the conditions are met.

And I hope it could be solved.

Aloha Mónica,

I agree that tracker needs to be elevated as a workaround is not the solution. I thought that only issue was the next activity restriction based on the activiy completion status for a previous activity was the only solution.

I thought the activity completion status (To Do) was working. That will definitely cause confusion for students to know what is done and needs to be completed.  I will have to double check and test v4.5 to see if issue still is not working correctly.
