Hi community!

A non technical question from our Moodle team: have any EU higher education institutions implemented the Moodle privacy tools in their Moodle instances? And if so, have any good / best practices been shared in regional or global MoodleMoots we may learn from?

We use them at the Open University, but I don't know much about it, because other memebers of the team look after it.

A complicting factor at a big university is that Moodle is just one system, so exporting data in response to as subject access request, Moodle is just one small part of that - and the process for doing that does not use Moodle's UI. the requesst has to go to the University's data privacy office, and they get the data out of Moodle using Moodle's tools. Anyway, the way we use it, it seems to be working for us.

Hi Tim!

Good to hear OU is using the tools: that makes all the sense in the world. We have a similar situation where Moodle is just one of many systems that fall under GDPR regulations, and AFAIK, we haven't received any requests for data (at least not for Moodle). The main thing for us is, that we have a list of data objects and contexts for which max storage periods have been established, to be used by all of Higher Ed in the Netherlands. With > 12k courses and a very substantial number of user accounts, it's a bit of a challenge to properly set up workflows for archiving and deletion in Moodle, and I was hoping to discover ways to facilitate part of that through tool_policy.
