Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on customizing a Moodle theme for our online courses, and I wanted to get some insights from the community. Specifically, I’m interested in:

  1. Best practices for customizing Moodle Themes without breaking future updates.
  2. Recommended tools or resources for designing themes that are user-friendly and responsive.
  3. Examples of custom themes that have been particularly successful in enhancing user experience.

If anyone has experience with this or can point me to useful documentation, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,

My views about "best practices" are:

1) Use the built-in themes, either Boost or Classic.
2) Add CSS to these themes to make desired changes.
3) If really needed, pick a plugin theme that has had good support.

Recommended tools and resources.
1) An experimental installation of Moodle for practice.
2) Knowledge of PHP, HTML, and CSS.

Since I add CSS to Boost, I would consider my Moodle a "custom theme." I also use Gareth's "Collapsed Topics" plugin. My best way of showing this is to give you my video that I have made for my students.
