Calculating Scales within Categories

Calculating Scales within Categories

Using Moodle 4.1 version with Moodle Assignments which has scales for the grading. The scales for the Assignments for the three Learning Outcomes are Not yet achieved and Pass (max grade 2.00 for each Assignment).

What we want to do is have three gradebook categories, one for each learning outcome, which will include Assignments for the first submission, and resit Assignments for the any second submissions the students may have to attempt. I know we can allow multiple attempts on a submission, but there is a reason for the resits.

How do I go about calculating the scales with the correct aggregation settings for the three outcomes? There will be certain circumstances the students will pass the assignments first time, therefore not all resits will be attempted. We wish for the category totals to display the scales accordingly.

Moodle Gradebook

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi Ali,

A little late to the conversation, but have you found a solution to your problem?

From what I understand is that Moodle can aggregate scales in a category total, if the setting is enabled at the site level. I am not sure if you added a scale to the category total or not based off of the provided image. My understanding is that Moodle would convert the scale into a value - so in your case students would get 100 if they pass and 0 if they don't and the category total would add those up as per the defined category total. There is some documentation on the Natural aggregation method and scale aggregation. Unfortunately i can't find the one document i found earlier that included an example with empty grades.

Did you try to use the calculation tool? We don't have scale aggregation enabled and was wondering if it is possible to do so through the calculator tool
